Personal Goals for 2008
What do I want to accomplish by the end of next year? What an open ended question. This past year are started to blog more often. Yes, I am a late bloomer. In the past, I really had no motivation, no direction. This blog, while only a couple of weeks old, was started with a couple of purposes, to document my getting out of debt experience and to show different ways that I could increase our family income. I want 2008 to be a continuation of 2007, as described below.
Blogging:
Currently, this blog is averaging 2 unique visitors per day. By the end of ‘08, I would like to have at least 200 unique visitors per day. This mean adding less than 20 per month. This does not seem like a tough challenge. I would also like to see my feed subscription reach 100 users.
How am I going to achieve this? I will continue to increase my writing frequency and vary the subject matter. I will also work on my writing style. I know from my day job, that I tend to be a quick writer. I don’t give many details and expand on my thoughts. I am going to open up a bit more and not just be straight to the point. Readers need to be engaged, otherwise they will not come back.
Photography:
One of our major purchases this year was a DSLR camera. I have had a Minolta 3Xi years and decided to stick with the A mount and purchased the Sony Alpha A100. This way, I did not have to purchase additional lenses or accessories, just the body. I have loved the camera so far, but would like to get more out of it. To this end, my goal for ‘08 is to get better at photo composition, lighting effects and software touch ups.
I will do this by seeking out free online courses of which there are many out there. I may even sign of for a local adult learning program. They typically run around $75 for 5-7 weeks and include actual field work.
Family Time:
Everyone would like to spend more time at with their children and spouse(I think), but with all that we are going through with our youngest one, I feel that my wife and older daughter need more attention. For 2008, I would like to see my wife and I spending more quiet time together, maybe a day trip or two. Same goes for our oldest, she deserves more one on one time with each and both parents. We have really shielded her from the movie theater so far(only two so far), but since she is 6 now, a higher percentage of movies are more appropriate for her.
So there you have it. These are my non financial goals for 2008. They don’t seem to be unattainable, so I look forward to success in the new year.
