How I Saved $80 Yesterday
We usually take our daughters to a portrait studio at major chains, usually Sears. After spending $300 in March for some very nice pictures, I decided that this was crazy. Usually we spend around $60-100 for birthdays and holidays. Christmas is the worst because of the greeting cards.
After the episode in March, I ordered a DSLR in hopes of doing the pictures on my own. This was not an easy decision as it was $700 for camera and lens, but over time, I was hoping that it would pay for itself. We already had decent lenses for our old Minolta SLR, so I purchased the Sony Alpha A100. The past few months I have been reading as much info and learning what I could on my own.
This all paid off, as I was able to get a couple of decent pictures last night. We are going to use good old Walmart for the photo cards. They are half the price of the studios. Also, 5×7s cost less than $.50 per sheet versus $8.00 at those places. These saving really add up! All in all, I am quite happy with my shots and look forward to the other holidays.
