Day Six at the Hospital
The little one is getting better. She has graduated to drink a few ounces of pedialyte from a bottle. Whohoo!! Tomorrow night she will be cut off from any nourishment in preparation for an endoscopy on Monday. The one catch is that she must be completely healed from the RSV. If the anesthesiologist is not happy, then the scope is canceled. I hope we still get to take her home.
At home, the older one is getting better. Thank goodness for family! My dad is retired and is able to watch her during the day and my mother chips in after work. This allows my wife to not miss any work hours. I have had to take vacation days here and there, but I carried over a bunch from last year, so I am good.
So what does one do for 1/2 a day at the hospital?
Practice photography (Lots of action ouside the window as there is a new building going up). Here are some photos. Click the thumbnail for a better view.
Browse the Internet. Here are some cool sites I ran into.
- GlassMojo: Actually found this site while looking up an old friend. Looks like cool art to me.
- AlphaMountWorld: I happen to own a Sony A100 DSLR. Nice new resource.
- Bob and Slyvia’s Videos: Check out the wnsuit video. It is wild.
Surveys, Surveys Surveys. Need I say more? Caught up with surveys on:
Watch TV. I have seen the following movies: Matrix, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, as well as Barney Colorful World Live(100 times), and Barney Lets Pretend(50 times).
I did also play with the little one when she was not too cranky. She seems to want to lay down quite a lot, but she does that at home too.
So that is it so far. Leave a comment on my pictures, I need some critique. But remember that they were taken through a giant glass window with some light behind me. Also, the skies have been really gray, with snow or rain.
Lastly, I would like to give a big thanks to all who have been praying for our girl. That is really touching and strengthening. Special thanks to GLBL for his mention of his site.

That’s great news!
Came here from GLBL. I have so been there. We went into the hospital with my then 16 month old son (just shy of 17 months) because he was having difficulty breathing. Turned out that he was so underweight due to a VERY rare thing (that Dr. House only could have diagnosed, that God he was on call for my regular doctor while she was out on vacation - God’s timing is so good!). We ended up being in the hospital for a full month. Tube fed directly into the gut because stomach could not handle it. Do contact your church. I cannot tell you how helpful they were. Whether you are in the hospital for a week or more, they are so helpful with prayers and meals and fellowship. I blogged about it a little (you can search for “JJ” on my blog if you want to read about it. I said a prayer for you today.
Hi Paula, What a story you have there. That boy is precious and I will be praying for him. Our older daughter has egg, nuts, beans, peas allergies, so I can 5% imagine what you go through, esp the eating out part.
The little one is 30 months old and weigh 17lbs. Weight is a problem for her because of her dystonic movements. She burns calories like the rest of us wish we could. That is where the G-tube comes in. Problem is she has had a lot of bleeding, due to erosions, since the button was put in.
As to your Church point, on Ash Wednesday, I walked up to the priest and told him about the hospital stay and he came to visit the next day. I was very touched and now that God is with us.
