My Epiphany
Ours came around Thanksgiving of last year. We had been experiencing a tough 2 years with out little one. She has special needs and has been going through countless doctors appointments with and equal number of test to determine a medical diagnosis. We still don’t know what she has. There is a long road ahead with her, as well with balancing the needs of an older daughter.
In the meantime, while my job has not been affected, my wife’s pay has seen a hit. She gets paid hourly and each doctor’s appointment resulted in some loss of pay. This has really added up. Over those 2 years, we went from never carrying over a monthly credit card balance to accumulating nearly $50,000 in balances and counting. We were maxing out several cards and could barely keep up with payments.
For some reason, around last November, it hit me that we better do something to stem the tide. Instead of wallowing in our family problems and letting our finances go to ruin, I felt that we needed to start working to get rid of the debt. It was at this time that I really started to study personal finance blogs. Sites such as Paid Twice, Blogging Away Debt and Free Money Finance kick start I needed.
In the 3 months since this epiphany, our finances have really turned around. While we still have that large debt, we have seen my wife get a raise in pay and more work hours. Also, we have rolled out credit card debt into a home equity loan, which has allowed us to stop adding to the debt. In the coming days, I will be revealing some more good news, so stay tuned…

Thanks for sharing your epiphany! Sounds like you’re doing the right things. Always good to control your money instead of it controlling you!
Hope the little one is doing better!
