Bad News But Spirits Are Up
For the past few weeks, my wife would come home and say that the tutorial center she works at is loosing students. This is normal for the end of the school year, but the rate is worse than last year. Last week she was told that here hours would be cut down from 30 to 20 hours per week. That seemed fine. We figured we were still ahead in our budget. She was still concerned about the rate of the kids dropping and felt worse things were to come.
Today she came home and said that she was being cut down to 6-8 hours per week. This is a terrible blow to our finances. For some reason though, we are not panicking. We are taking it in stride. I think this is partly due to the action we made earlier this year in consolidating our debt. This has allowed us to save up a bit and with some extra money from my bonus and that federal tax rebate, we were able to setup a decent emergency fund. Who knew we would have to dip into it so soon? I hope we don’t, but having it there gives us some comfort.
I feel sure that somehow things will turn out all right. The actions we have done this year has made me more positive about our finances. We no longer are adding to our debt and I keep close track of our budget. This does not mean we will sit back and wait for good things to happen. Maybe this means my wife should search for something else. Who knows.
